CAN YOU HELP PLEASE?
I am looking for someone whose IBS symptoms have improved significantly by following my suggested diet or reading my book. What I need will take a few minutes of your time. If you feel you could help please email me, and I will explain!
A REMINDER ABOUT REINTRODUCING FOODS/DRINKS
When you have completed your three months exclusion of problem foods, reintroduce the foods in a very structured way….One at a time and at four day intervals…BECAUSE some symptoms, [for example tummy symptoms], happen quite quickly on the day you eat the food, but others [noticeably joint and muscle pain, and mood disturbances like depression and anxiety] commonly kick in much later. A late reaction can take anything up to three days to take effect.
RED HERRINGS
It is very difficult to pinpoint for yourself which foods are causing your symptoms. If you assess what you have just eaten in order to make a judgement on what is adversely affecting you, you have [according to my stats] got a 17% chance of getting it right! The question is how long does it take before a food causes symptoms? If you are convinced that your bloating starts after a meal, you will be trying to analyse what you have just eaten, and develop all kinds of theories [rich meals, large meals, fatty meals, acidic foods, fizzy drinks, vegetables] and the problem is likely to be totally unexpected for you…the tea or coffee which you have several times a day. Remember it’s frequency of use which leads to someone becoming intolerant of favourite or staple foods or drinks.
COW’S MILK INTOLERANCE BECOMING A SOYA INTOLERANCE
This is becoming increasingly common. For those of you who have a test with me I warn you not to have too many soya products to take the place of dairy products, but for those of you who are a long way away from me, if you have been dairy free for a while and use soya products more than twice daily, you may have developed a new intolerance through over using this food group. Be aware that soya flour is in nearly all bread and bought cakes these days, so if you regularly eat bread, and use soya milk, soya yogurts, soy sauce, soya margarine, soya mince, soya or edamame beans, tofu, tempeh…the list goes on! you can see how soya becomes your new problem food.
